I agree that all students should be required to studyart and music in highschool. I’ve read that youngchildren who study art and music in grade schooldobetter in their other studies. That argument aside, we should study art andmusic for its sakealone. We should study art and music to learn more aboutourselves, our culture, and ourworld.

Both art and music feed students’ imaginations and help them expressthemselves. There’s areason our ancestors in caves drew on the walks and makemusic with drums. Wanting toexpress ourselves is natural. It gives us an ? forour emotions and fears. It may not always bemusic other want to hear or artothers will appreciate, but the activity itself is enjoyable. Itshouldn’t matterif the end of result isn’t perfect. In the process, we learn what we likeanddislike.

Studying art and music means more than drawing or playing an instrument.Student usuallygo to art galleries and concerts, too. By studying the pictureson the museums walls or byreading the program notes at a recital, students willlearn what society has decided is worthyof praise. They learn what is importantin their own culture.

Students may also learn about other cultures by looking at art andlistening to music from othercountries. When they do that ,they ‘ll seesimilarities and differences with their own. They’lllearn about what isimportant in other

societies. Student will also learn how the art and musicofother societies. Students will also learn how the art and music of othercultures affect ourown.

By studying art and music in high school, students begin to understandthemselves as well astheir own culture and other culture. What could have morevalue than that?
